Recent advances in the SMS method: Diffraction and 3D aplanatism

Abstract: 

Recent advances in the Simultaneous Multiple Surfaces (SMS) design method are reviewed. In particular we review the insertion of diffractive surfaces in the SMS design process and the concept of freeform aplanatism as a limit case of a 3D SMS design.
