The Centro de digitalización Intermodular (CeDInt) is a leading research center of the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid dedicated to the development of advanced technologies for intelligent environments, energy efficiency, and digital transformation.

Located at the Montegancedo Campus of International Excellence, CeDInt has been promoting applied research since 2004 aimed at addressing the major technological challenges facing our society. Its activity combines scientific research, technological development, and innovation, with a strong commitment to transferring knowledge to industry, public administrations, and society.

The center brings together researchers and professionals from different disciplines — including engineering, telecommunications, computer science, architecture, and applied sciences — who work collaboratively to design technological solutions capable of improving building efficiency, optimizing energy management, developing new forms of digital interaction, and advancing intelligent systems for cities and connected environments.

Research for the Intelligent Environments of the Future

CeDInt’s scientific activity is organized into several research groups that address key areas of current and future technology.

Among its main lines of work are the development of Internet of Things (IoT)–based systems for the monitoring and intelligent management of infrastructures, research in virtual and augmented reality for advanced information visualization, as well as biometric and digital security technologies for identification and data protection.

The center also conducts research in optical engineering and photonics, including advanced sensors, energy-efficient lighting systems, and energy harvesting technologies, as well as wireless optical communications, one of the emerging technologies with the greatest potential for future communication networks.

These research lines are complemented by work in sustainable architecture and smart buildings, where technology, energy efficiency, and architectural design are integrated to create more sustainable, efficient, and connected built environments. CeDInt also participates in projects related to space science and operations, expanding its impact into strategic technological sectors.

Innovation and Collaboration with Industry

One of CeDInt’s key strengths is its ability to bring research results into the real world. The center participates in numerous national and international projects and maintains close collaboration with technology companies, public administrations, and research organizations.

Through its experimental infrastructures, technological laboratories, and demonstration platforms, CeDInt acts as a space where research is transformed into real solutions capable of generating economic, social, and technological impact.

With a strong commitment to innovation and knowledge transfer, CeDInt contributes to the development of technologies that drive the evolution toward smart buildings, sustainable cities, and advanced digital systems, consolidating its role as a key player in the research and technological innovation ecosystem.
