COBOR: On Board Optical Communications

The COBOR project pretends fulfill the necessity of replacing the traditional electrical-based avionics systems by optical communications in order to reduce weight and complexity.

The last INTA developments in optical infrared diffuse communications inside a satellite (OWLS) prove that this technology suits the conditions of the communications which occur inside the aircrafts, and especially the unnamed aerial vehicles (UAV). The main objective of the project is to design, build and test an all optical system that can replace all the electric communications systems. When free-wired communications were no possible, they will be substitute by FO communications.
