The role and challenges of ICT (infrastructures) in the development of smart cities

Abstract: 

An increasing urban population drives the need for more efficient asset and resource management to ensure high-quality living to citizens. The smart city transformation is fuelled by technology advancements and the deployment of intelligence and information management systems. This study investigates how ICT can help urban communities to realise sustainable development. It focuses on three infrastructure-related smart city pillars - smart energy, smart transportation, and smart water - to show growth opportunities driven by future smart cities. The research provides a market analysis of the latest trends in those three areas and strategic recommendations to key stakeholders eyeing smart city market. The study period is from 2012 to 2020
